PBIS

At West Prairie Elementary schools, a school-wide, proactive behavioral approach program is utilized.   Through the program, Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS), clear expectations are established, taught, modeled, and reinforced across all settings and by all staff, and data is used for decision making in all school settings and situations.

The main focus of PBIS is to provide and communicate a clear system for all expected behaviors through a common language and to reinforce these behaviors when they occur.  While many staff and students may have assumptions of what expected behavior is , we cannot assume that everyone's beliefs, background, and experiences are the same.  Through PBIS, we work to create and maintain a positive, productive, and safe environment in which all school community members have clear expectations and understand their role in the educational process.
